Based upon the compact Mercedes-Benz 190 E, it was given improved aerodynamics with components such as over fenders, front and rear spoilers and a large rear wing, and employed a 2.5-liter inline-4 DOHC engine capable of 340hp. In the same year, the works team car sponsored by German beer brand König Pilsener secured second place in the Championship and brought the Manufacturer’s Championship to Mercedes-Benz.
